Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Pompele.
Hi Andrea, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in the Western Italian Alps, the region where Mont Blanc is located, I developed a deep passion for wildlife and wild places from childhood. I studied biology at a University in Italy and I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in behavioral biology and a Master’s Degree in Ecology.
I worked in Namibia as a professional safari guide and then moved to Tanzania, East Africa, with a brief experience in between in the Red Sea in the diving industry. In Tanzania, I managed a safari camp in the remote and wild Ruaha N. P. and trained local guides for 3 years.
I’ve opened and managed a luxurious tented lodge in Serengeti National Park and I train guides for the Company for 4 years. I conduct walking safaris in the Eastern Serengeti. I perfected my guiding and training skills throughout the years and designed an in-house training program that works for Tanzanian guides
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t easy. I had to do lots of hard choices and sacrifice some of the comforts to live in remote locations only surrounded by wilderness and wild animals.
Planning was helpful but the capability to be adaptable is a must, determination is a key factor especially when obstacles are on the way. Finding solutions and quick decision-making to manage complications helped a lot.
My biology background helped me and my knowledge of languages as well. Struggles have been many, but it was worthwhile
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I manage a luxurious tented lodge in Serengeti National Park. I’m specialized in tailor-made walking safaris and I train local guides I’m known for being a trainer and the walking guide of the Company in the industry.
I’m proud of having developed the walking safaris for the Company that previously wasn’t offering this activity and the opportunity to train guides that have great potential. Seeing their progression, teach them to be the best guides that they can be and see that they reach the level I saw in them, and they never lose their passion. It’s satisfying to see their growth.
My scientific approach sets me apart from all other guides and trainers, I can customize and go deeper in knowledge according to guests’ understanding and expectations. I know what I talk about at a deeper level and I can transfer my knowledge and my passion for it without lecturing but by showing and explaining through direct experience.
