Meet Angela Siets of Ludowici

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Siets.

Hi Angela, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well 6 years ago we decided to open up our nonprofit helping children and adults with disabilities to learn how to ride horses I fought my whole life with ADHD and dyslexia. I wanted a place where kids and adults that learn differently felt safe and could have fun and feel like they belonged. Growing up I was tortured and tormented by other kids for being different. So me and my husband talked and decided we were going to open the facility where everybody felt like family and that’s what we’ve had for the past 6 years

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it has not been a smooth Road the struggles that have come around are we have lost several of our horses. Not always do I have the funding for these families to come and enjoy Equine Therapy we are a non-profit we do get paid from Gateway. When they have the funding for these families. And just because we have an organization that pays for their lessons we are never in the black we have to pay for a lot of things out of our own pocket and have for the past 6 years

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well like I said previously I suffer from ADHD and dyslexia. And growing up I was tormented and tortured by my peers. Horses have been my safe place and got me out of my depression from being picked on as a child. So I wanted to start an Equine Therapy Program but not the typical one most places they have what you call a spotter on each side of the child and someone leading the horse. But there are several children out there that can physically do it themselves and mentally can do it themselves so why not give them the opportunity and that is what we do here at sites Farm. Then we give them the opportunity to show and compete to earn points to get the chance to make it to Perry for the state horse show at the end of August against regular kids their own age.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve always been into animals, particularly horses. I was shy awkward had a lot of disabilities growing up and was picked on and tortured all the way until the day I graduated. But in school I stood up for the kids that got tortured and picked on worse then I did and I knew I always wanted to work with people who had disabilities just like I did
