Meet Ashley Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Jones.

Hi Ashley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Oh wow, such a big question. I started off as an MUA back in 2012. I was a single mother of a 2-year-old trying to find my calling. My clients would always comment on my skin and ask me what I was using and what could they use. Being that I had no experience in that department I would just tell them to go to an esthetician lol. While by this time, I had my 2nd son in 2017, I wasn’t able to travel as much for makeup gigs so it was time for a career change so Esthetics fit into the makeup field perfectly. I attend Alpha School of Massage for Esthetics in 2018.

I learned so much it was an awesome experience that I’m glad I took a leap of faith on. So 2019 rolls around and I now have my FL Esthetics and GA Esthetics license but struggling to find a position that fits my family schedule. Being a Military Spouse can be hard to work for someone else with your spouse constantly being gone and little to no support.

By the end of 2019, I started Glam and Glow Beauty and Body Servicre. My skincare studio was dedicated to providing skincare to all people but focusing on diversity and inclusion.

The BIPOC community lacks skincare education. We are told that black doesn’t crack or POC was made to believe our skin is tougher which is false. POC because we can produce melanin we are more susceptible to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and scarring which means we have to be very mindful of what we do and use in our skin.

I want to provide an experience as well educate a demographic of people that luxury services were never marketed to. It’s currently 2022 and we are still growing and thriving providing personalized skincare and massage services to Camden County and surrounding cities.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Georgia issued a shelter-in-place order 4 months After I started my studio in 2020. As a new business, it was a really scary moment. I had worked for months preparing, getting business licenses, and purchasing supplies and equipment for the business, and then all of a sudden the plans had to be put on hold.

Luckily, I have amazing clients and family support that was able to adapt during not working. I quickly shifted all to selling products online and started to create kits for clients who were trying to take care of their skin at home during this unprecedented time. Being able to connect with them online has really helped my business coast until I was able to provide in-person services again.

When my business was starting to get some momentum. My youngest was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum disorder. It was a challenge for my business because for the therapies and services we went from being open 6 days a week to 4 days to accommodate my sons schedule. Luckily for me, I have some of the most caring and understanding clients who adjusted well.

It makes it harder to take new clients, but I try my best to accommodate everyone.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Glam and Glow BBS provides a variety of treatments all of which are totally customized and pampering. I provide microdermabrasion and dermaplaning to professional-grade peels and face/body waxing.

We also provide makeup and massage. My clients relax while getting results. Providing people with a glow and confidence is what makes everything worth it. Leaving better than you came.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Listen there is a list of people that deserve credit for me being able to chase and accomplish this dream. 1st off my husband because of him I was able to go to school and focus on the business while he made sure our family was secure all while serving our country.

My mom, grandma, sisters, and dad for helping me with the kids while being cheerleaders. My best friend for forcing me to stick to the path of entrepreneurship. Actually, my whole family was the one investing in me spiritually and financially trusting me with their skin.

Lastly, Mrs. Angel is one of the best teachers at Alpha and a great mentor.
