Meet Bethany Gaultney of HALO Primary Care

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethany Gaultney.

Bethany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
HI! My name is Bethany Gaultney. I am a nurse practitioner and the owner of HALO Primary Care. I grew up in a small town called Weaver in northeastern Alabama. When I say small, I mean small. (I had 69 in my graduating high school class). I went to nursing school at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL. I worked as a nursing assistant on a geriatric-psychiatric unit while in nursing school. This job sparked my love for the older population. I moved to Orlando in 2013 and worked at Orlando Regional Medical Center. After graduating grad school in 2017, I moved to Bluffton, SC to be closer to family. I started out seeing residents of assisted living facilities and skilled nursing facilities. I also worked in cardiology and hospice. My life motto is “Be the solution and not the problem.” It did not take me long to see a need for primary care in our community. It was taking 6 months for a new patient appointment. This need led me to start HALO. HALO is an acronym for Healthy Aging of the Lowcountry. We focus on ages 50+. I enjoy primary care because no day is the same, and my patients feel like family. God has graciously paved the path and continues to do so.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I’m not sure exactly why, but signing the lease to my office has been the most stressful part. I guess because that made it real, and there was no going back. Getting credentialed with insurances has taken an act of congress. But like I said earlier, God has been so gracious and has been with me every step of the way. I couldn’t ask for a more supportive husband and family. My office manager (Selina) and nurse (Jillian) have also been a godsend.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I would say that HALO is different from other primary care offices because we truly try to get to know our patients. We will celebrate victories with you or will hold your hand and cry with you. We know some patients have difficulty getting to appointments, so we make house calls to homebound patients in Bluffton.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was always voted “most likely to succeed.” School came easy for me, so I loved the challenge sports gave me… I cheered, played volleyball and softball in high school. I even played softball (pitcher) my first two years of college.
