Hi Bey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My story is a story of a guy from humble beginnings with a deep passion and love for music and business. For over 25 years, I’ve been writing songs and producing music, hoping for a chance to get my music heard around the world.
Like most people who have pursued a big dream, there have been many peaks and valleys, many highs and lows. However, through faith, determination, perseverance, and hard work, I have been able to reach many plateaus as an independent artist and CEO and get my voice heard around the world in places I’ve never thought possible!
As an African-American kid growing up in the inner cities of Harlem and Washington DC I always had the dreams of being an entertainer. Throughout the years, I became fascinated with business, thus wanting to become an entrepreneur and see what I could achieve as both an independent artist and businessman. Although I’m still on my journey and not a household name just yet, I continue to make major progress as an independent artist and entrepreneur! The names Bey Bright and Bright Vision Entertainment are gaining notoriety for sure.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey definitely has not been smooth. The music business is very competitive and extremely expensive. Throughout the course of my journey, some of the major struggles along the way were (1) breaking up with band members, (2) going through a divorce and losing my family and friends, (3) losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in music business investments that didn’t pan out (4) battling ’bouts of depression.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an independent artist and CEO of an independent music company called Bright Vision Entertainment. I specialize in writing, arranging, producing, and performing R&B soul music. I’m known for creating a brand of music identified as “Soul Nostalgia.” Soul Nostalgia is a great blend of contemporary urban music mixed with a touch of nostalgic soul.
I think that is what sets me apart from my contemporaries currently in the field of urban and independent music. If I had to choose one thing that I’m most proud of, it would have to be seeing my record go #1 on both the Amazon Music Hot New Releases Chart and the Best Sellers List over in the UK! That was an unbelievable feat for me as an independent artist and label.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was sitting with my dad in the living room every day as a kid while he played his records. I learned so much about music from him sharing stories with me. My dad taught me about all the groups from the rock and roll and Motown eras that fascinated and inspired me to this day.
