Today we’d like to introduce you to Carley Pettit.
Hi Carley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi guys, I’m Carley, a local photographer in Savannah! Honestly, I would say I’ve always had such a deep passion for photography! In the 5th grade career fair, I actually ended up presenting it over becoming a photographer believe it or not. I would spend my time as a kid outside using my mom’s “good camera,” snapping pictures of my younger sister around the backyard. To this day, she is still my favorite model to take pictures of— however, the pictures have definitely grown a lot as has she! Flashing forward to high school, my passion had only grown, and I began practicing even more and taking it more “serious,” knowing this is what I wanted to do! I began working part-time while completing classes in high school as well as dual enrollment and doing photography as much as possible on the side! Through my PT job, I made so many amazing connections and began getting many new clients. As my experience grew, so did my clientele, and I started really believing in myself! After I began my senior year in high school, I decided it was time to take the next big step and really dig deep! I started working every weekend, trying to further my passion. I did seasonal mini-sessions, seniors, families, and so much more! Now, being in college and moving to Savannah, I have found so many more incredible locations and met some pretty amazing people along the way! However, while photography is amazing, and I owe a huge part of my growth to my friends and family for believing in my “hobby” and letting me practice on them. I would be lying if I didn’t say that I truly do owe it all to Jesus— who has been the one all along who never lets me give up and helps me recognize the beauty in His creation and lets me capture it along the way!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The saying “smooth road” is definitely hard to say! I think there have been many challenges to overcome, like most things in life, but I believe in prevailing obstacles with the help of God. I think the biggest struggle has been balancing work, life, and my business! Trying to not overload myself has definitely been hard, but the more I have continued in my craft, the more I realize what I can handle! I think in school one of my main struggles was doubting myself due to my age, but what I would say to younger me is, stick to it!!! Hard work ALWAYS pays off, and being young is an advantage! I’ll admit that being a college student with lots of homework, working a job, and making time for friends and family, all while trying to balance my photography isn’t the easiest, but I seriously wouldn’t trade it for the world!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’d love to tell you more! I’m a lifestyle photographer specializing in all things family, newborn, couple, and portraits! However, I also enjoy painting and drawing, which is another fun project I hope to further business into in the future. I also love being outdoors, specifically on Tybee with friends, and spending time with my wonderful family and dogs! Photography is something I believe is so important. It’s a generational art, something that gets recognized and shown through generations so that we can show our memories that turn to moments in a flash! My photography, I would describe as warm, timeless, real, and intimate! I want to capture the beauty of each and every one of my clients! Living in a world where we pick and ponder on every one of our flaws, I want to emphasize the beauty of imperfection! We weren’t created for perfection— that’s why we have Jesus!
Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I’d love to work with you!!! The best way to contact me so that we can work together and I can give you the perfect gallery is through my website or socials! I never say no to an idea, so shoot me with your visions!
