Today we’d like to introduce you to Corbin Bailey.
Hi Corbin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Corbin Bailey, owner of South Georgia Lawn Care. I’m 24 years old, happily married, and my wife and I welcomed our first child a little over a month ago. I enjoy spending time outdoors—hunting, fishing, and playing sports—and time with family and friends. I’m grateful for my faith and credit my accomplishments to Jesus Christ.
I founded South Georgia Lawn Care as a junior in college just over five years ago. What began as a part‑time side job—mowing one yard a day—rapidly grew into a full‑time business. While completing my degree, I balanced school and a fledgling business; those first two challenging years taught me invaluable lessons in discipline and perseverance.
After graduating, I committed fully to the company. By building a website, launching social media pages, and investing in advertising, I grew from roughly 15 regular yards to 50 in about a year, at which point I hired my first employee. Over the next year, we expanded our services to include routine lawn maintenance, landscaping, hedge and tree trimming, roof cleaning, and commercial account management (condominiums, apartments, mobile home communities, and small businesses).
Today, we maintain about 100 properties and continue to grow. I’m passionate about serving clients well, building a reliable team, and improving outdoor spaces. I’m excited for the future and look forward to where South Georgia Lawn Care will be in the next five years.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not entirely — the road had several challenges early on. Balancing college coursework with a fledgling business was difficult; those first two years were especially tough as I tried to graduate while growing SGLC. I also struggled with uncertainty after graduation — wondering whether I could make a comfortable living mowing lawns and whether I should commit full time.
Growing the customer base from solo work to a team required learning marketing (website, social media, advertising) and scaling operations. Handling increased workload alone, hiring my first employees, and then managing and training a growing crew brought new responsibilities. Expanding services and taking on commercial accounts introduced operational complexity and higher expectations.
Each struggle taught me valuable lessons in discipline, time management, marketing, hiring, and leadership — lessons that helped the business grow to about 100 properties today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We maintain residential and commercial lawn maintenance accounts across Valdosta and surrounding cities. South Georgia Lawn Care provides routine lawn maintenance as well as landscaping, bush/hedge trimming, weed control, fertilization, roof/gutter cleaning, sod installation, and pretty much anything our clients need. We are known for our ability to leave a property much better than we found it, and we are proud of all of our accounts. When you go into business with SGLC, you can expect premium professional services across the board. Our work ethic, discipline, attention to detail, and communication are what set us apart from all of our competitors.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
The bible app motivates me every day. I wake up and read the verse of the day, and it sets the tone for having the best day possible, no matter what it may bring.
