Meet Curtis Foster of Downtown Savannah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Curtis Foster

Hi Curtis, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m Curtis Foster, a passionate self-taught chef from Savannah, GA, who realized in the fifth grade that he wanted to become a world-renowned chef. My cooking philosophy is rooted in the belief that food is an art form, and I’ve honed my craft through hands-on experience and personal instinct for seasoning. From catering a family reunion for over 300 people to creating exquisite individual plates, I take joy in bringing happiness to others through my culinary creations.

My signature dishes, like Goat Eatz garlic herb chicken, honey balsamic lamb chops, and unique offerings such as king surf and turf & 6 rings rasta pasta have cultivated a dedicated following. Drawing inspiration from my Southern roots and the history of Savannah, my style reflects the essence of soulful Southern cuisine. I admire Gordon Ramsay as a model of inspiration in the culinary world. Additionally, I’m committed to studying the history of great African American chefs and the transformative dishes they created, currently focusing on Patrick Clark, the first Black chef to win a James Beard award.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey to becoming a master chef has been an exciting adventure, filled with ups and downs. One of my challenges in Savannah has been learning how to source quality ingredients, which has made me more resourceful and adaptable. Embracing these challenges has helped me grow and refine my skills, all while maintaining the high standards I set for myself and my clients.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a private chef and event caterer, cooking for celebrities, Fortune 500 companies, and anyone in need of an exceptional culinary experience. I’m known for serving some of the best food in Savannah, Ga. What sets me apart from other chefs and restaurants in the area is my versatility, I can create a wide range of dishes from scratch, and I’m skilled at baking as well. My specialties include meats that are always moist, tender, and full of flavor, with pasta and lamb chops being among my most requested dishes. I pour my heart and effort into everything I cook, approaching my craft with the same passion that an artist has for their work.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Key qualities that contribute to my success include exceptional service and reliability, delivering food that is always hot and on time, ensuring great taste and enticing aromas, and presenting dishes beautifully. It’s all about making a strong first impression that leaves a lasting impact.
