Meet Erin Young

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Erin Young.

Erin Young

Hi Erin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been a physical therapist for over 25 years and worked in all kinds of settings, including outpatient orthopedics and home health. I love being a PT and working with patients; however, like many PTs, I was nearing the breaking point of burnout. Bogged down in paperwork every night, I felt I had little time to spend with my family.

In addition, insurance companies dictated the type and amount of therapy patients could receive or denied claims altogether. My company was requiring more and more documentation to justify therapy visits. It was clear to me both parties only cared about the bottom line, not the patient. I didn’t want to leave the profession that I love, so I decided to venture out on my own.

At 53, this was a huge step for me! I started Young Physical Therapy and Wellness in the fall of 2023. Initially, I was a mobile concierge PT and loved the freedom and flexibility of seeing clients in their homes and spending as much time as needed with them. I have since expanded to include a clinic space on Wilmington Island, and I am still doing mobile visits by request.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have never owned my own business and really had no idea what I was doing in the beginning! I had help from a close friend who owns her own mobile IV business. I definitely struggled with the marketing part and finally hired someone to help with social media, emails, and branding.

I prefer the clinical side, so getting myself out there to sell myself and my new business was and still is very difficult. I am naturally more introverted, but I know the only way to succeed and attract new clients is to hustle and grind every day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
I graduated from Michigan State University with a BS in Physiology and went on to get my masters in Physical Therapy from the University of North Georgia and my doctorate in Physical Therapy from Montana University. I specialize in Orthopedics for all types of musculoskeletal injuries, but also treat vestibular disorders/vertigo, TMJ pain, and chronic pain. I offer FCEs for workers comp or personal injury.

I particularly love working with runners and offer running gait analysis and gait retraining in addition to injury recovery and injury prevention. I love to geek out and talk about all things running with my clients! I incorporate nutrition, hydration, sleep, and stress management into my programs along with strength and mobility work. I am certified in dry needling and blood flow restriction which are a large part of my practice.

I am most proud of the client experience I have created and believe this sets me apart from other PT practices. My clients can call or text me anytime, I check in with them regularly and continuously monitor and upgrade their programs as needed. I want to be there and support them at every step along the road to reaching their goals.

Can you talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy?
My greatest joy is spending time with my two boys, Avery and Jack. They are 19 and 17, and seeing them grow into the smart, sweet, and funny young men they are has made this momma very happy!

Other random happy things:  running, hanging with girlfriends, traveling, reading, playing with our beagle Lucy, and taking boat rides to Little Tybee with my boyfriend to bird watch and shell hunt.
