Meet Jamie Finley- Scriven of Lady’s Island (Beaufort, SC)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Finley- Scriven.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my journey in skincare at the height of COVID, during a time when the world and my life felt completely uncertain. I was working at a local car dealership where employees weren’t valued, and we were often treated as if we were replaceable. Deep down, I knew I wanted more. My now-husband encouraged me to follow my passion for beauty, and around the same time, my hairstylist, Alayshia Seimone, also pushed me to take the leap into makeup. She even offered to let me tag along on her sets to gain experience.

I told them both the same thing if I do this, I want to do it the right way. I didn’t want to just “do makeup”; I wanted to be educated, licensed, and legitimate in my craft. That decision led me to enroll at Kenneth Shuler in Goose Creek, where I began what I thought would be a makeup journey, but somewhere along the way, I fell completely in love with the skincare side of things.

Every weekday, I made the long drive to Goose Creek determined to turn this passion into something real. I was the oldest in my class, which ended up being a blessing. I knew my purpose, stayed focused, and even found myself motivating some of the younger students to keep going. In the second half of my program, my instructor, Mrs. Crystal, changed everything for me. She was knowledgeable, transparent, and had the kind of spirit that poured into her students. She helped me see that this wasn’t just a creative outlet, but it could be a fulfilling, sustainable career.

After graduating top of my class with a personal recommendation letter from Mr. Shuler himself, I passed my state boards on the first attempt and immediately began building what is now Reminisce Spa & Essentials. What started in the den of my home grew into a tiny suite (affectionately nicknamed “the closet”), and later into the storefront I have today. Some of the same clients who laid on my den table years ago still visit me now. A reminder that humble beginnings can still lead to beautiful destinations.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not and truthfully, it still isn’t. Being a solo esthetician and managing every part of a business is hard work and not for the weak. There’s this misconception that entrepreneurship is glamorous, but the truth is, it’s filled with long nights, hard lessons, and constant self-checks.

From figuring out what services to offer, who to market to, how to attract clients, and then how to keep them. Every step has been a process of trial, error, and growth. There are moments where things don’t feel fruitful, where you question if you’re doing enough or doing it right. I’ve learned that everything you want is on the other side of the things you don’t always want to do.

Balancing life, clients, and business while staying true to your identity can be a challenge, especially in a market that’s now become oversaturated. Even with the ups and downs, I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. It’s taught me resilience, self-trust, and the importance of knowing exactly who I am in an industry that often tries to make everyone look the same.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a licensed esthetician and the owner of Reminisce Spa & Essentials, a corrective skincare studio based in Beaufort, South Carolina. I specialize in corrective treatments that target hyperpigmentation, adult acne, and texture concerns, with a particular focus on skin of color. I’ve create a space where clients, especially those who’ve been underrepresented in the beauty industry can feel seen, educated, and genuinely cared for while achieving visible, lasting results.

Over time, I’ve become known for my corrective facials, dermaplaning, and microneedling treatments, as well as my honest, straightforward approach to skincare education. I don’t just treat the skin; I teach my clients how to maintain their glow between appointments.

I’m proud to be known as the esthetician who delivers real results, not just surface-level facials or product pushes. It means a lot when clients who’ve tried everything else come to me and finally see visible changes in their skin, often in a shorter time than they expected.

My approach is a little unorthodox compared to the traditional spa experience. I don’t believe in rushing through sessions just to meet a number. Every treatment is intentional, customized, and rooted in what that client’s skin actually needs in the moment. It’s less about the quick fix and more about creating long-term, sustainable change both in their skin and their confidence.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to stay true to yourself. When I first started, I thought success meant offering every service imaginable. I wanted to appeal to everyone. The truth is, I ended up doing a lot of things I didn’t even enjoy (and honestly, some I flat out hated).

Over time, I realized that alignment matters more than variety. I found my passion in corrective skincare and decided to make that my focus. Today, most of my service menu is built around results-driven skincare, and that’s exactly where I pour my time, energy, and continuing education.
