Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Farr.
Hi Jonathan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been in marketing for most of my life. 2024 was a strange year. After 10+ years as the Marketing Strategist for one of the largest commercial lenders in the U.S., my life was turned upside-down when the CEO was raided by the feds. No warning. I found myself unemployed at a time when no one was hiring.
So, I decided then and there to create my own business, offering transparent and affordable services to local businesses. I saw so many agencies offering marketing services at prices that were out of reach, or they simply didn’t “get” local businesses and the community. I wanted to change that, and leverage my experience and creativity to help other local businesses.
Since then, I’ve also added bookkeeping to my services, as well as funding programs for local businesses and real estate investors – but nothing that is designed to keep entrepreneurs in debt.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think starting a business is ever a smooth road. There are always struggles, but in meeting those challenges, there are lessons to be learned and creative solutions to be found.
Going from a nationwide presence to providing services on a local scale was one of those challenges. People saw me whenever I’d go on a walk, but didn’t really understand what I did for a living. Believe it or not, I took a part-time job at a local grocery store for the express purpose of meeting the people in my neighborhood. That paid off tremendously, and it’s where I met my first few clients.
Going to networking events (both in-person and virtual) held by groups in Savannah, was also a great way to meet people who needed my services, or who knew people I could help.
My wife (a poet and artist) is the best partner I could hope for. She encouraged me to stop working for others, and create a business with a conscience.
I love Savannah, and I’ve met so many people with exciting stories to tell!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Windsor Solutions started as a marketing firm, with a focus on local businesses. The goal was to offer a wide range of services at affordable prices, while bringing my decades of experience. As time went on, I saw that many businesses were struggling with their finances. This moved me to not only get certified as a bookkeeper, but also to offer working capital solutions to businesses that don’t place debt on the books.
When realtor friends in Savannah were talking to me about local property flippers and people who wanted to refinance their rental properties, I decided to add real estate financing to my roster.
What sets me apart from the rest?
First, I try to scale things to my clients’ budgets. I can work with almost any budget and deliver results.
Second, transparency and honesty are the keys to success – not the bottom line. I would rather exhaust all options available and refer a potential customer to someone else than take their money without being able to deliver what they need.
Third, when people come to me, what you see is what you get. I’m a human being, not a faceless corporation or a bunch of menu options. You get service tailored to your needs, whether you need marketing, bookkeeping, or capital.
Fourth, I’m going to be re-launching my podcast, Improving From Normal, and would love to showcase local business owners and community leaders who are making a positive difference in Savannah.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was very quiet, but incredibly curious as a kid. I was always exploring the woods or in the library, researching things I didn’t know. I loved nature, and I loved words. I also loved music, and took piano and violin lessons as a kid, and was even in one of the marching Mardi Gras Krewes in New Orleans for a few years, where I played the bodhrán (and Irish drum).
I’ve not outgrown any of those qualities. I still explore new places on my walks and take pictures of animals and plants. Similarly, when I find a topic I know nothing about, I research it until I can have a conversation about it in depth. And I have a collection of weird instruments in my music studio at home.
Having a curious mind leads to flexibility, adaptability, and creativity – which has certainly helped as the world gets more complex.
