Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Hart.
Hi Krystal, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After working for nearly a decade in the public sector, I found myself constantly torn between being a present wife and mother or an indispensable employee. I also had the stress of medical bills that needed to be paid due to complications with my second daughter and student loans from pursuing a Master of Public Administration to compete with my workload. I couldn’t afford to walk away from my career but I desired to be present in my family. My solution was to create a side hustle that would bring in extra cash and build a business that would give me the flexibility and limitless earning potential I needed. Eventually, my side hustle became my main source of income and I was able to become a full-time mother and part-time public relations strategist through my business Sparrow Communications.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey as an entrepreneur was fairly easy at first. I attribute that to my strategic thinking and love of learning. For two years, I spent countless hours researching all aspects of business development and testing it out in my corporate job. Therefore, all of my business decisions were well-planned so that my family remained a priority while I continued to help clients with their public relations needs. I had flexibility in my schedule and was highly selective in the clients I chose so things typically worked out as planned. Life was good! The most difficult struggles came when I lost my stepfather unexpectedly in the middle of COVID while struggling with personal and health issues. Up until then, I had a plan only for an external crisis or temporary problem; however, I had never prepared my business for what would happen if I was mentally or physically unable to show up. In 2021, I had to start over and rebuild my business model to be both sustainable and resilient. This included more documentation, automation, and help in the business so that if I had to step away someone was there to step up.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
For more than a decade, I worked with organizations in every aspect of business — public relations, marketing, budgeting, customer service, social media, skills training, creative direction, and more. While working with organizations, I realized I was drawn to entrepreneurs. There’s something about seeing a business owner struggling to crack the business code that makes me want to jump in and save her from the headache.
In 2020, I launched The Profit Life Society. This is an online community with courses and resources that empower women to change their lives through entrepreneurship. I work with purpose-driven women to not only start, build, and grow a business, but to create a business that is legal, impactful, and profitable. My mission is simple: To help 1,000 purpose-driven women create a business that is legal, impactful, and profitable so they can elevate themselves, their families, and their communities. This mission fuels me because I’m aiming to create a safe place for women who share similar values.
We are driven by purpose, not profit. We lift women up, not tear them down. We collaborate, not compete. We choose our unique path, not follow the crowd. We flow in our purpose, not hustle for another dollar. We care for ourselves first, not serving others.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I wouldn’t be successful if I wasn’t a visionary. I’m not afraid to be first or different. If it hasn’t been done, let’s do it! If it’s going to be hard, let’s get through it. If one door closes, let’s look for a window. That’s been my attitude since childhood. It got me any trouble many times. Now it is the very thing that has made me successful. Sometimes I wonder if I”m insane because I literally think I can do anything if I want to achieve it.
