Meet Lindsay Gilchrist of Savannah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Gilchrist.

Hi Lindsay, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in Charleston SC. I grew up with the beautiful antebellum surroundings of historic Charleston and the south. I have been fortunate to been able to experience so many different southern styles and traditions. I used that experience to incorporate in my life and artwork.
I am the mother of two beautiful girls, Chloe Jane and Josephine Claire of who are my inspiration.
I started my path with attending a community collage in North Charleston graduating with an AA degree. I then had the opportunity to attend SCAD in Savannah and move there to continue to learn and grow as an artist.
Being a single mother and having some definitely challenging moments in my life I’ve always wanted to be able to stand and move forward with my art and career.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely a cliche but there is something to be said about being a starving artist. I’m a single mother and going to school and working on my courses, at the same time to be attentive to my daughters takes a lot of energy. I always find time to balance my work and family and still try to be creative.
I didn’t come from a privileged family and I had to do everything for myself. I had to work and attend school at the same time just to get supplies to complete some of my corse work. I have overcome plenty of obstacles, but I am committed to continuing my career in art and design.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in Graphic design but I’m not limited to just that. I have created and designed logo’s for several retail stores. I have had done multiple pieces of commissioned artwork. I have also designed and sold my own line of jewelry, as well as I have a line of crochet pieces.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me the most is that anything I create stirs up an emotion with the person who it’s intended for. I believe art is something that you share and is born from the heart. I want to be able to inspire my girls and anyone who is passionate about life and art. I believe strongly that whatever life throws at you don’t let it deter you. If your knocked down, dust yourself off and get up and keep going.
