Today we’d like to introduce you to Louise Conroy.
Hi Louise, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I moved from the UK to America in 2013. I started taking pilates classes in Raleigh and fell in love. I moved to HHI in 2023 and the thing I missed the most about Raleigh was pilates. I bought myself a reformer to try and fill the void at home. I took an instructor course simply so I wouldn’t hurt myself at home.
The studio that was teaching me convinced me to try teaching someone. Was hesitant but said ok. I taught my first client on 7th February 2024, and they nice again fell in love. I completed my training, passed the NPCC exam and set up my own studio Glow Pilates. I taught my first class there on 7th February 2025, exactly a year later!!
Glow has been going from strength to strength. I’ve had over 570 people try the studio at least once since I opened.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Sadly no. On Sept 19th the building I was in was forced to close by the town of HHI as it failed the fire inspection. They gave us 30 minutes notice to move.
Since then I’ve moved my reformers into a host studio. That didn’t go so well. The clients there didn’t want to share their space and after a few days we knew it was a bust. I’m under contract to buy somewhere in The Village of Wexford but I now need board approval to put a new business in. I’ll know that decision on Monday Oct 20. I found a space to rent month by month whilst I wait for a decision from Wexford….. I’ve been in the new space since Saturday but alas he he just told me he found a full time tenant and I have to move again by December 1.
I’m now trying to figure out my next step!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a pilates studio focusing on group reformer pilates. Our classes have a very welcoming and friendly approach. Each class is different. We love to get creative!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Social media has helped us grow. Being willing to be your real self online has helped me gain customer interaction and loyalty. We started things like spend the weekend with me! These have been really popular.
Referrals are also a big deal for us. We offered Friendship Tuesdays in September so you being your bestie for free. That was super fun!
