Meet Megan Kranzler of Olive Ridley Studios, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Kranzler.

Hi Megan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My self-employment journey began in 2020. After being laid off from my corporate job, the pandemic oddly provided me with the perfect runway to launch my own business. I didn’t start with a grand plan or a solid direction. I knew I just needed to start. So, Olive Ridley Studios was born.

Fast-forward six years, and I’m working to make Olive Ridley Studios the first choice in branding for small businesses. But it took me a full year to figure out who I really wanted to help, and how. When I first started, I wanted to create with no boundaries. I’d been working as a graphic designer in corporate America for around 7 years, and I was ready to cut loose.

So, I started out designing apparel and home goods to sell on third-party sites. It was the kind of creative freedom I needed at the time, but it didn’t last long. It turns out, I actually like having a brief to design to. Graphic design is creative problem-solving, and when I was creating whatever I wanted, I started to miss the problem-solving aspect. That’s when I started taking on outside clients.

Eventually, after working with a number of clients, I honed in on who I enjoyed working with and which types of projects I enjoyed working on. The answer was small businesses, especially those in the product and retail sectors. I love helping other business owners develop a brand and bring it to life in the real world.

As I celebrate six years in business this July, I’m so proud to share that earlier this year, I brought my husband on full-time as my Director of Sales & Marketing. It’s a huge leap, but we are officially a team!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t necessarily call the journey I’ve been on for the last six years smooth, but I haven’t had any major catastrophies (knock on wood). I think I’ve struggled with many of the same things other small business owners deal with: cash flow issues, slow months, and feeling a bit isolated.
