Meet Michelle Milazzo of Richmond Hill and Savannah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Milazzo.

Hi Michelle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been a fitness enthusiast, but after getting pregnant with my first child, and after an emergency C-section, I found it difficult to navigate postpartum fitness, but obtained my cardio yoga certification. I simply stuck to what I knew, and when I got pregnant with my second child, I continued my fitness journey to the best of my ability. I am a Florida native who moved to Richmond Hill in 2023. I immediately found Sweat Like a Mother – Savannah (SLAM), and I knew it was a community that I needed. This was a community where I could work out with my children present, so not only was the community for me, but it was for them as well. Seeing the bonds they made with other children, and the bonds that the moms made, no matter their stage of pregnancy or motherhood! It was truly a blessing and so much more than just a workout group! I decided to get my group fitness instructor certification, and I took over the business that very same year!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is so easy to make excuses not to focus on your health and fitness when you are a mother! Not finding the right time, fussy children, there are just so many things that we can allow to get in the way. However, in order to take care of your children, it is also important to take care of yourself first! Carving out an hour of your day is something that absolutely needs to be a priority. You will never regret a workout. Sometimes the most difficult thing is showing up, but once you do, you have the most amazing community of women holding you accountable and motivating you to put in the work!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer, certified crematory operator, and certified Funeral Celebrant, I spent 18 years working in funeral homes. I loved taking care of families when they needed help during their darkest days. Once I became a mother, I yearned for more. Helping other mothers in their fitness journey not only helps them to feel their best, but it sets an example for their children on the importance of health and fitness in their own lives! SLAM Savannah doesn’t just target physical health, but it targets mental health as well! This community has playgroups, nights out, and so many other events and activities outside of the workouts!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Joining a local chamber or just putting yourself out into the community is one way to just jump into it! We will do career days at local schools, participate in holiday parades, and just put ourselves out there to network where we can!
