Today we’d like to introduce you to Miki Lansdowne.
Hi Miki, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I moved to Savannah in 2020. I did not know anyone here, and so my goal was to meet new friends. I began looking for other female riders for meet-ups and rides. I had been looking for a sisterhood of supportive strong women who meet up several times a month for rides and events. I was also hoping for some local charity events the group would do together. I was unsuccessful in finding something consistent or with the same interests. I want to be involved with a sisterhood that make all women feel welcomed and supported while also supporting the community. A couple months ago, I came across the Iron Lilies Instagram page. I immediately felt that they aligned with a lot of the things I personally was looking for. When I realized that there was no Iron Lilies Savannah Georgia group, I thought, well maybe I should start one here. So, I reached out to them! I am very excited to get something started here. I am currently looking for a partner Liaison to join me in building our Savannah sisterhood and getting some events and rides going. Until then, I am riding and working on getting this out there!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Unfortunately, it has not been a smooth road. Meeting new friends as an adult is not easy, as I am sure many of you know. I am also an introverted homebody, so that makes it even more difficult in a new city! But getting myself out there and joining such an amazing group of women riders who is spread out across the globe is a great push to get out there and get this going. I cannot wait to get some women riders together so we can meet other Iron Lillies and ride some motorcycles!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Jill of trades one might say. I have been a Beauty Artist for thirteen years and work at the House of Color Salon in Bluffton, Sc. I am a published photographer and writer. My first book, Abandoned Gary, Indiana Steel Bones, was published in 2019; I have photographed several abandoned places all over the country, including Chernobyl in Ukraine. I really enjoy trying my hand at anything that interest me. I live life on my terms and as full as I personally can. Three years ago, I decided to start riding motorcycle again. So, I drove to Charleston, Sc, and bought my first Harley Davidson from a really cool local fella. I had given up ridding a long time ago, so I reached out to Savannah Harley Davidson and signed up for their amazing riding classes. I ride a 1998 Harley Davidson Xl-1200-C Sportster. I am learning and doing my own work a little at a time and it’s very rewarding to me.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
If someone wants to be a part of or collaborate with the Iron Lillies Savannah, Georgia, they can reach out to me via Instagram @ironliliessavannahgeorgia or [email protected] for all the information needed. Lastly, the best way to show support is coming out to the meetups and spreading the word, but I think the most important supportive action one could give is that every single day when you get behind the wheel of your vehicle, watching out for motorcycles!
