Meet Nicki Mitcham of Nicki M Travel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicki Mitcham.

Nicki, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my business Nicki M Travel after we took our kids to Disney World for the first time. Our two boys at the time were two years old and almost 1 year old. I grew up going to Disneyland every year with my family, but there was something really special about watching our kids experience meeting Mickey for the first time and seeing the theme parks through their eyes that clicked something in me. I learned more about how to plan Disney World vacations so I could help other families make memories and now we’ve been going to the parks three times a year as well as adding some Universal resort trips too.

Planning theme park vacations can be very complicated and I still remember for our first trip looking at the list of on site hotels and feeling so confused about what was the best value and wondering if they were even safe. There are also so many extras to add on like dining reservations and skip the line programs (Lightning Lane Multi Passes) that can make the whole process so overwhelming. I wanted to use my expertise and my knowledge to help walk other families through the process and now I can also personalize vacation plans for families based on their interests and priorities.

I will always opt to invest in a vacation rather than things for our family. We love to make memories together and know those will last much longer than the things we buy. I love hearing about my clients trips and the memories they made that they’ll remember forever too.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think anyone has a completely smooth road. Being an entrepreneur is hard and there isn’t anyone else there pushing your deadlines or staying on top of your work which is a blessing and a curse. You have to have a lot of self discipline to keep going. Also the travel business, especially the theme parks like Disney and Universal, are always changing. They come out with new offers all of the time. Universal just opened a brand new theme park, Epic Universe, and it is a lot to keep up with and learn. I’m learning to enjoy the process and take my clients along with me as I learn about new theme park experiences and pass my knowledge down so they can have the most stress free vacations possible.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Nicki M Travel was created to help other families, especially those with young kids, plan and organize vacations that the parents and kids alike will remember for years to come. I specialize in planning vacations to Disney and Universal theme parks on both U.S. coasts. I have experience traveling to all of these parks with my three boys ages 6 and under which makes me extra qualified to help my clients navigate planning their family vacations. I walk my clients through the planning process step by step – helping them select the best time to go, the best hotel for their family, and then break down all of the other decisions to be made in a simple process that is tailored specifically to each family’s interests and priorities. I also provide all of my clients with ideas for getting their family excited about their theme park vacation with movie lists, countdown ideas, and more. I wake up early for my clients to make dining reservations and skip the line services. I provide detailed park strategies that have been tested and used by my own family. I also offer packing lists, tips for avoiding Meltdowns in the parks and in lines, and dining recommendations. I guarantee the best price – if a package is booked through me and a promotion becomes available later on, I apply it for my clients. My clients can count on my to be the one on hold for anything needed from customer service so that they can be as stress free as possible during the planning process.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I love to listen to Podcasts – lately I’ve been loving Shannon McKinstrie’s Good Content, The Goal Digger Podcast, and Point of the Story. I recently finished the book The E-Myth by Michael E Gerber and gained a lot of good business knowledge from it.
