Meet Niko Makaveli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Niko Makaveli.

Hi Niko, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Grew up here in Savannah GA, but was born in Fayetteville, NC to a military family and had some acquired family that stayed on the westside of Savannah. My mother worked two jobs and went to college at what used to be Armstrong Atlantic State University. With that being said I spent a lot of time with my cousins getting into a lot of unnecessary things, lol. During that time, I still maintained a focus on my academics.

It was then I fell into my affinity to write. I had always had the “Gift of Gab” in a sense, ever since a young age. At the age of 9, I figured out I had the ability to rap after a night with some cousins listening to music. I then realize that I could actually end up being good with rapping. I ended up moving to El Paso due to the military at the end of my 7th Grade year at Oglethorpe Charter School. This is when I decided to leave music alone and focus on sports. I still dabbled in it and would write some songs and record a couple here and there but my main focus was on football. It wasn’t until my very short football career ended abruptly with a major collarbone injury I suffered at the beginning of my senior season.

I ended up dealing with a lot during that time and fell back into making music. I felt like I lost the only thing in this world that I was actually good at so I used music as an outlet. I wrote about my personal struggles and mental health and it ended up propelling my music to a whole other level which has led me to where I am today musically; from the content to the passion, to the flow.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. My music tells that in a vivid nature. A struggle is a struggle nonetheless so surviving is a success on its own. For me to have achieved some sort of success in this industry and in the world, in general, has been a long journey, but I’m grateful for it.

I’ve seen many ups and downs musically and most definitely in life. Music has helped me navigate through all of it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Music is what I specialize in. From writing to rapping it’s something that I feel is me at my most natural self. I feel like I’m known for my lyric content, style, and cadence. I’m most proud of my consistency.

Being able to drop as much as I have over the years and to produce at a consistent rate is something that I make sure to challenge myself to do. I feel like what sets me apart from others may be my personal transparency. A lot of artists speak on their personal dealings but I think I dig just a little deeper than most.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
I feel like there’s no time where risk is impossible to escape. It presents itself in most cases when you’re moving in the right direction just to see how much you really want to succeed. BUT you must also understand that your risk must be calculated. You must be as certain as humanly possible in that situation. that this would be the best choice.

I’ve taken many risks in life and some ended up well for me and some not so much. I’ve risked personal well-being to chase this dream of making music for the rest of my life. Risked my freedom and much more. Especially my finances lol but if it’s something you really want it shouldn’t always be certain.
