Quamine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve had a passion for cooking since I was 7 years old and my love for the craft only grew stronger over time. Fresh out of high school I stepped into the world of barbecue as a pitmaster which is a role I’ve proudly held for over 10 years. My commitment to perfecting my skills led me to my culinary degree from the College of Coastal Georgia. I started cooking for my own business under a tent with just a dream, my smoker, and a table.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I was born in raised in Miami, Fl where I started making money at a young age by selling CDs and candy all around Miami. My brothers and I had to buy our own clothes and shoes as kids. We always found a way. When we were growing up we were in and out of foster care. We eventually moved to Georgia, but life was still the same for us. These moments in life taught me to overcame many obstacles. I applied everything I’ve learned throughout life into becoming a business owner. The road to owning a business is not easy, but with faith and action you can overcome all of the struggles. You just can’t give up!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Don Que’s Southern BBQ?
In 2023 I started selling BBQ under a tent. We soon grew to a food truck which was just the start. In 2025 we opened Don Que’s Southern BBQ sit down location in Brunswick, GA. We offer soul food and smoked bbq. We are most known for our fall off the bone ribs and mouth watering oxtails. We have many other smoked meats and fried as well.
What matters most to you?
My family is what matters most to me. They are the people I love the most. Everything I do is for them. I love seeing them happy. I want to be able to leave a legacy for them. I grew up coming from nothing so I want them to have everything I never had.
