Today we’d like to introduce you to Quyen Plummer.
Hi Quyen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I was 14, I started working as a cashier at a breakfast place on Tybee called Sunrise. Shortly after, I began waitressing there and continued for the next 18 years. During that time, I went to college, earned my degree in medical laboratory science, and worked in a hospital for about two years—all while maintaining my waitressing job. However, something didn’t feel right. I wasn’t happy in the hospital setting, so I made the decision to leave and return to waitressing. I love talking with people and meeting new faces. When the opportunity to own my own restaurant presented itself, I jumped at it. By then, I already knew the business inside and out.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been fairly smooth so far, though of course there have been struggles—it’s the restaurant industry. If it were easy, everyone would be a restaurant owner. From employee challenges to equipment issues and everything in between, it all comes with the territory. But I enjoy the challenge; it builds character and makes the success even more rewarding.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I’ve learned that mistakes and unplanned moments will happen. The key is to learn from them, do better next time, and not let stress take over. Show your team that everything is under control—even when you’re drowning inside! HAHA
