Meet Rachel Vogel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Vogel.

Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up creating as a child – making slings for my imaginary injuries to Barbie outfits out of fabric scraps. I have a passion for using old to create new (upcycling). After high school, I needed to spread my wings and ventured to Colorado for college. I returned to MN to complete my K-12 Art Ed. Degree. Life happened – and I had the opportunity to relocate to Tybee and open a business. Fast forward a few years and Rachel Vogel Designs was born – Local Hand Made – Sparkle. My shop is my heart and soul – in the tangible form.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are definitely challenges to owning a small business. Managing your time – if you don’t do it, no one will – keeping the creativity flowing – finding new artists/products and remembering to take time away too.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work is ever-changing. I truly love upcycling existing materials and currently create skirts for the shop. I would love to have more time to create an entire line (tanks, shirts, sweaters and such). Jewelry is a staple in my creating – charm necklaces, mala bracelets and more. The shop portrays my vibe – some people love it and for some it’s not their thing.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Color. Sparkle. Living in the present. The people I get to meet. My family and friends. Animals. Wine. And Creating.
