Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Angilletta.
Hi Samantha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2015, I signed up to study abroad for a summer semester in Florence, Italy with three of my friends from Quinnipiac University.
I knew that my love for food would greatly influence my experience abroad but, I did not want my personal Instagram to be flooded with solely what I, well, put my fork into haha. There was no such thing as highlights or guides on the Instagram platform at the time and the blog I wrote while I traveled covered my time abroad holistically so my only other option was… create an Instagram for people to follow my fork along the way.
It was successful and I started to really enjoy the idea of going out and trying new dishes in new places all over. I came home from studying abroad and decided to keep Instagram going, and it has been a part of me ever since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Totally!
I mean at times it is hard to balance my full-time job and keep up with post-engagement. I love going out to eat and even cooking at home so I truly see it as an additive bonus to my life.
I do wish I was able to put more time into my Instagram however, my teaching and coaching positions come first. Luckily, the summers are devoted to @putaforkinit_.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a secondary English and Reading teacher in Westchester New York.
I fell in love with teaching because I love to give back and to be able to take part in molding the minds that will eventually be the future of the world we live in, that is an incredible feeling. As an English teacher especially, I get to teach them literacy skills, yes, but everything they learn is attached to the perspective of amazing literature.
One thing that I realized quickly is that as a teacher, I thought my job was to instruct and fill the minds of my students with knowledge… but every day, I enter my classroom, I am actually the one constantly learning from my students and each and every one of them continue to make me a better person.
In addition to teaching, I also coach two sports, volleyball and softball, which I loved to play growing up. I felt so fortunate to be able to not only teach the sports that I once loved to play but to be able to build a love and passion within each of my players, that is a great feeling.
It’s pretty awesome to see them develop a love for the game, an appreciation for camaraderie, and become well-rounded student-athletes.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I love any book that is written by Colleen Hoover.
Currently, Reminders of Him is my favorite. I have a GoodReads account to keep track and log all my thoughts as I read, it sounds nerdy but, going back and retracing my steps and piecing together my thoughts as I read gives the act of reading a pretty intuitive vibe.
It’s pretty cool.
