Meet Tamera Wilcox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamera Wilcox.

Hi Tamera, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Hi, my name is Tamera and I am the photographer operating Mera Images Photography.

I am a 25-year-old, 5-year experienced photographer of Children’s Milestones, Teens and adult Glam Birthday portraits, Events & Weddings, Seniors & university Graduates, Couples & Engagements, Business branding & Editorials, Maternity & Newborns, and families in general.

I enjoy capturing moments, for the families and people who enter my studio throughout their life. my motto is “Capturing moments through my lens that last a lifetime.”

My goal is to be able to capture every moment of each of my clients, whether it’s a birthday, or life milestone, building a business or building a family.

My studio space is currently located in Alma, GA. I travel all over GA taking photos for my amazing clients. It’s small but gets the job done. It was formerly the family bbq restaurant turned creative space/studio.

My love for photography started with me being in the other side of it. Growing up in the model/pageant world I was always getting my photo taken, but after spring break after my second semester of college in 2017, my mother invested in me big time!

I always took her photos for her children’s custom clothing business, Leave it to Lesia, well she decided it was time to level up after the parents of those children kept asking me did I take photos professionally, and now I do. That stepping stone has kept me afloat and supported me since then.

I am now officially a full-time entrepreneur building my craft. Photography is an art to me so I feel I’m more of a photographic artist, capturing special moments to be cherished. I build my own sets and props as well as project manager for a lot of my clients.

“The Mera images Xperience” is a whole different dynamic providing needs specialized for each client.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Along the way, I struggled a lot with the technical aspects of photography until I stopped looking at it that way. Of course lighting, and gear is essential, but everyone retouches & edits differently, everyone chooses their style of posing, and retouching that represents not only themselves as a creative, but also their client. Once I got out of my head about that I worked a lot more smoothly.

Another thing of course would definitely be financed. It’s hard to walk away from a job no matter how small, to depend on your faith in your dream, but with the support of my clients, my family, and my friends, I’ve been blessed to work even through the roughest times.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a multi-passionate photographer.

I specialize in photography of people. I am most proud of my ability to faithfully stay creative through the crazy times of the pandemic, and continue to build a business and brand. What sets me apart, is that I am a black familiar photographer in my area that specializes in photography, but has many other talents such as makeup, graphic design, and prop building that allow me to help my clients in a lot of situations where others may find a little more challenging.

For example, as a woman, many of my clients tell me how much more comfortable they are when wearing certain items they can be themselves and relax easier, if a makeup artist cancels I can normally fit in my schedule a makeup booking to save a client from having to cancel, and when it comes to a set build I do it all in house, which saves my clients so much money in the end!

We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as arriving at a point in your life, business, or both, that makes you feel fulfilled. No matter if that means winning 100 photography awards, or having 100 family portraits in your portfolio.
