Meet Yolanni Atkinson of Lannistyles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yolanni Atkinson.

Hi Yolanni, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
To be quite honest, I always knew how to do hair. I was relaxing hair and doing roller sets back when I was still in high school. I learned a lot from my mom, who put 3 kids through college doing hair. She use to always tell me,” Yan, you do so good with hair.” She use to pray over me and say, “I stir up the gift inside of you”. It came so natural to me. I never visioned myself doing hair; I ran from my talent for a long time. I worked every job you could think of. Back in 2018, while I was working as a nursing assistant, I started doing kids’ hair. People would see my daughter’s hair and would ask me to do their daughter’s hair the same way. I never figured out how I went from doing kids’ hair to adults’ hair. Everything just took off so fast to the point that I had to either cut my hours at the nursing home or turn down potential clients. So, I decided to leave my job and take on hair full-time. Faith is something serious! I remember the lady who use to make my work schedule told me that it was no way I could support myself and my family by only doing hair. I knew how great my God was, and I believed in the gift that he gave me. I now make almost triple in a week than I made in two weeks as a nursing assistant. Isn’t God amazing? A lot of techniques I learned from trial and error, but God definitely has been guiding my work since 2018, and I’m so grateful.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My only struggle along the way was learning to put myself first. We as stylist sometimes put our client’s needs before our own. I had to learn to take some time out for myself. I can’t take care of my clients if I don’t take care of myself.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Lannistyles LLC?
Although I am a licensed cosmetologist, I only specialize in protective styles. I offer tons of braiding styles; my most booked styles are Knotless braids and locs. I like to say all the time that I provide luxury braids and locs because I really care about the state that my client’s natural hair is in. My loyal clients tell me all the time how much I’ve grown their hair. I think what sets me apart from most braiders is that I offer the full package and my professionalism. Everything is included. You can come sit in my chair and get a good cleansing wash and condition before I install your protective hairstyle. All they have to do is let me know their preferred hair color and style, and the rest is taken care of.

What’s next?
I currently don’t have any “big” changes. I’ve been getting a lot of requests for classes, so I may or may not tap into that this year, but I’m at a place in my career where everything is going just the way it needs to.
