Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Hernandez.
Hi Andrea, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hey! My name is Andrea Hernandez, I was born and raised in Miami, Florida, and never would I have thought I would have ended up in Savannah, Georgia but here we are.
From a very young age, I found myself to be very creative but didn’t think much of it, much less that I wanted to pursue it as a career. However, the world of fashion was something that always inspired and amused me.
Growing up, I found myself obsessing over clothes, taking fashion photography of my friends, and adding my own twists on my clothes, never thinking anything of it. One thing I knew for certain was how much it consumed and fulfilled me.
My older sister, the fashion designer for AV8CH, showed me that fashion could be way more than just styling outfits together instead of that we could make something of our own —something unique and irreplaceable.
When it came time to apply for college everyone that knew me and my love for fashion told me to apply to SCAD, and I did but never thought too deeply into it as I was set on going to a business undergraduate program.
Fast forward two years later, I am finishing up my sophomore year at SCAD majoring in fashion marketing and management, have designed a capsule collection with Av8ch, and am a small business owner of Andre Miami Sunglasses — my own eyewear collective.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth path, but comfort brings no growth. Getting out of my comfort zone and moving away from home was extremely hard for me.
But I knew I had to push myself because the opportunities to follow are endless. It is so amazing knowing that every day I am here I’m closer to my dreams and aspirations.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Sunglasses have always been a huge part of my outfits so I decided to bring everyone along and create Andre Miami -my own eyewear collective. Andre Miami was created to provide unique sunglasses for unique individuals. Andre Miami focuses on giving individuals confidence and an edge through eyewear.
Sunglasses should forever be a fashion statement. Some of my favorite shades are:
The Nova – Feel bold and confident in our nova sunglasses, the perfect addition to make a simple outfit look edgy and trendy.
Madonna – Be your own work of art in our madonna shades. Feel beautiful while looking beautiful.
In addition, from my eyewear collective, I have also branched out into the swimwear world by designing a capsule collection for Av8ch.
Each and every design was thought out to make all women feel confident and beautiful. In this collection, We bring you along with minimalistic, timeless pieces that each tell a story of their own. It was fascinating to create sketches, pick and collect fabric swatches and then see the designs come to life.
To be able to see people wearing a design I created with lots of love and thought alongside my sister is a surreal feeling I can’t even put into words. The Sorella Collection is now available at Av8ch and stays tuned for the next collaboration with Av8ch coming Summer of 2022.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice would be to just look around! A mentor can be someone in your everyday life, on social media, or someone you encounter once. Find a mentor that motivates you and inspires you to think bigger and do better.
In my case, my biggest mentor is my older sister, someone I look up to in this crazy fashion world as she challenges not only herself but me as well to think out of the box when creating each and every design.
She also encourages me to push my ideas further, create goals and move towards achieving them.
