Today we’d like to introduce you to Daphany Cox.
Hi Daphany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember, I was always fascinated with baking and decorating cakes. As a child, I loved helping my grandmother in the kitchen. She would let me frost and decorate the cakes for our family events. I was very young, so the cake was not neat, but I enjoyed every second of it.
As the year’s passed, I became the family baker, I would make cupcakes, cakes, and other treats for almost every occasion. I was the family baker for the longest until closer to senior year in high school. I stopped baking for a while to focus on my artwork. After graduating, I felt that something was missing. I was missing that feeling I got when I created. In 2018, I discovered a YouTuber that decorated unique cakes, and I immediately knew what was missing in my art.
I had forgotten how much I loved creating cake art. A year later, in 2019, after a year of practicing, learning, and preparing, I started A Creative Taste, where I can combine my love for art with cake creations. Today, I continue to draw and paint, but most of my artwork goes into my cakes. I draw all of my cakes before making them because I enjoy visually seeing my cake designs on paper.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, but honestly, it is never easy when working towards a goal. It takes a lot of work, mistakes, learning from each experience, patience, and never giving up because you never know what’s to come.
Most of my struggles along the way were believing in myself. If I had made a mistake, I would begin doubting myself. However, over time I learn to keep my head up and try again. I would keep trying until I was happy with the outcome. I taught myself that it is perfectly okay to start over.

A Creative Taste specializes in custom cakes and other creative desserts such as cupcakes, cookies, and delicious cinnamon rolls. I’m known for my creativeness, customer service, unique cupcake cake designs, and moist cake layers.
I believe that this is only the beginning, and I am very proud of myself and how far I’ve come as a baker. What sets me apart is my creativity, and I put my artwork into my cakes. Art has always been my passion and the same for my cakes.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
One of my favorite apps that I use daily is Mantra- Daily Affirmations. I love to wake up and see a positive affirmation that I can read to start my day. Daily affirmations are great to help relax the mind. One of my recent favorite books that I love to read is Daily Rituals: Positive Affirmations to Attract Love, Happiness, and Peace.
This book’s chapters are about self-care, dedication, self-love, and so much more. I believe all of these things are important, especially self-care, and this book helps me stay focused on my goals and is a great way to start the day.
