Rising Stars: Meet Diksha Sadhwani

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Diksha Sadhwani.

Diksha Sadhwani

Hi Diksha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Currently, I am a design student studying Motion Media at SCAD. That is a big thing for me as my parents were initially not very convinced about art & design as a professional career. However, I got a chance during the 2020 lockdown period to explore my interests in Graphic Design. It also served as an opportunity for me to tell my parents that I was serious about what field I wanted to get into.

I started with graphic design internships with NGOs, which made me go up to launching my magazine. When I look back at that time, it still feels like a dream that I got this impromptu idea after just stepping into the world of graphics. After launching my first issue which even got recognized by quite a large number of people, I received another opportunity to collaborate with “The entrepreneurs of India” which was another organization that recognized my work and invited me to collab with them to guide them for their magazine. They also congratulated me on the 1st Runner’s Up position as the creative entrepreneur of the year.

After seeing a boom in everything suddenly after some time, as things started getting back to normal, my team had other priorities. Unfortunately, we had to split up, leaving the magazine with just 1 issue released. Even I moved on with the thought that I would get it back up sometime soon. Until then other things in my life started to change, I decided to go abroad at just 17, came to the US for the first time. It was difficult to convince my parents and be determined to take the step; a morning abroad changed me in many ways. I wanted to take the long paths instead of shorter ones and am still determined to prove myself.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For me, it was never a smooth road. Firstly, design was considered an unconventional field in my society and thought of as something anybody could do. That was also the main reason I started off my magazine: to make people aware of what this industry is all about and what it has to offer. Also, after Covid, my family struggled financially, and my decision to move abroad just after the pandemic made things even more complicated.

After coming to the US, I was trying to figure out a lot of things, my mind was in two places but now having been in the US for more than a year I can say that I am a changed person, more determined, confident and less paranoid.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I started as interested in graphic design, but as I explored the industry more, I wanted to push myself further, so I changed my path to Motion Media Design, which I am pursuing a degree. As many people ask me, Motion Media is nothing but Moving Images, Moving graphics, a combination of Graphic design & Animation, etc. It includes a large variety of different mediums and approaches.

I am proud of always pushing myself to be the version of myself. Even if I am scared, I tell myself that I will be able to make it and keep walking on the path. I keep myself full of affirmations and I think this quality in me is the one thing that I have kept working on within myself and that I truly proud off, not only it helps me to keep mind my mind sane but also boosts my confidence, gives me a new spirit which sets me apart. I am not only creative but a very outgoing and supportive person.

For which all the credit goes to my part time jobs that I am doing and did in the past at my university. I started as a Convenience Store worker in the school cafe, a Pre-College Assistant in the summer programs, representing the university, then as an International Orientation Assistant, where I embraced my culture and supported all international students, to lastly, being a Sales Associate at ShopSCAD which is store that consists of all the work by SCAD students, faculty, alumni and staff.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe in karma, but also that luck has that 10% grip in its hands, which is a significant part of success. Touchwood, I feel like there have been ups and downs, but the situation was never out of my hands. Eventually, everything came in my favor.
