Rising Stars: Meet Frances of St. Savannah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frances.

Hi Frances, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Frances Nazario, I am originally from Puerto Rico, where I was a cosmetologist since 2002. In 2007 I decided to move to Savannah Georgia with my 3 year old daughter at the time. I continued my journey as a stylist after licensing in the state, and started to work at a salon located at a local mall, since I needed an establishment that had a continuous flow of new clients. After 2 years working there, and doing continuous education, I decided to go to a higher-end salon, where not only my clients followed me, but I also was able to expand my clientele and my knowledge. So after being in Savannah 18 years, working in this industry, meeting many great colleagues, and listening to the needs of my clients, I decided to open my own salon with the help of my husband, our salon manager, and a group of great stylists that have followed me thru this journey. We also provide apprenticeship program, by teaching and mentoring other future stylist. I am grateful for all the doors that have opened for me since then, and the continuous support of our long time clients, as well as the new ones coming in.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I, like many others in this industry know, all good things come in time and when the time is right. I do believe though in my journey, nothing has come easy or handed, I have had to work hard for it, but I have learned how to walk the path by listening and observing with an authentic critical mind of whats right and wrong, learning from the wisdom of some, and identifying what I don’t want to pursue from others. I think that when you have strong values and a good work ethic, the journey, even though it can be a hard one, we can make it as possible and achievable, as how much we believe that we are capable of.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a master cosmetologist and a mentor that has a lot of passion for the industry. I don’t really like to say that I specialize in something specific, because I personally think that it could box me as a stylist. One thing I do like to say is that what I enjoy the most doing is color transformations, as well as haircuts. I am a strong believer that a good color can’t showcase its best without a great haircut, and vice-versa. I think one of the things that I am proud that sets me apart from others is where I come from, Being born, raised and having studied cosmetology in Puerto Rico, where we have a huge diversity of ethnicities. Our training is based on all types of hair from tight curls, to straight, as from fine to thick and corse. That’s the reason why one of my other strongest skills are texture services such as: Perms, Relaxers, and Keratin services, and this is something that I also share with any of my apprentices. The more you expand your knowledge and your skills in all types of hair, the more capable you will be to have clients in your chair.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I am a firm believer that anything that takes determination and hard work, its always worth it at the end. Never set yourself short. I know that many people say this, but when there’s more than a few , it’s usually cause there’s some truth to it. Like the popular phrase goes: “when there’s a will, there’s a way”.
