Rising Stars: Meet Harry West

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harry West.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The page started in the midst of the first Coronavirus lockdown, early 2020. The page was a way of sharing some of the best wildlife content in the world, whilst also preventing me from dying of boredom. My friend Dylan Lambert also helped me with the page, and we’d alternate posting i.e one day him, the next day me.

Creating an aesthetically pleasing wildlife page was one of my main goals, and I hadn’t seen any pages that matched the colors of their posts, so I decided to make that my USP, now a year later, we have over 400 posts that match the color and often habitat, in a grid block of 6.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The passion for the page really kept me going in the initial stages of the account, reaching 20-30 likes on posts excited me, but the grind was slow to the first 1000 followers. Then one day all of a sudden, one of our reels started to do very well. I remember seeing 50,000 views and thinking wow that’s unbelievable.

But it didn’t stop growing and ended up reaching 5.7 million views, which saw our followers shoot up to around 9000. It was astonishing me and my friends couldn’t believe it. I can understand why the video did so well though as it is very entertaining!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, a zoology student, aspiring to work in the animal science world. Animal documentary making is definitely the dream.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Always had a deep interest in wildlife, spent countless hours sitting watching David Attenborough documentaries, from the age of 3, along with other heroes like Steve Backshall. I also had many pets as a child, and visited a lot of wildlife parks, as all I wanted to do was to observe animals.
