Today we’d like to introduce you to Kasey Jackson.
Hi Kasey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
A Western North Carolina native, Kasey Jackson has a deep love for the mountains and is inspired by the local art and original crafts Asheville has to offer. Her natural love for candles and aroma inspired her to make her own at home. In 2011, working out of her kitchen, she launched her lotion candle business, Element Tree Essentials. People loved her candles so much that she opened her first street booth in Asheville, North Carolina. In 2019, Kasey and her partner travelled to Savannah and immediately fell in love with the culture. They decided to stay and open a booth at the River Street Market.
Being out in the community with her product made her realize the candles’ potential for wellness. To this day, she has numerous returning customers who have shared that the heated lotion eases skin problems such as eczema and extremely dry, cracked skin. “It feels good that my product helps people. It brings me closer to the community that I have been so inspired by.”
Over the years, Element Tree Essentials has grown significantly, including 3 brick and mortar locations. Spring 2022, Kasey is opening her 4th brick and mortar location on Broughton Street. She still loves traveling to festivals and shows, meeting new people and friends, and educating the community about the healing elements of her candles.
When it comes to her own success, Kasey likes to refer to poet Maya Angelou, “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While I have run into many obstacles over the past 10 years, I am very grateful for all of the growth and opportunity that has come my way. Never give up on your dreams!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work revolves around a fast paced creative energy that is constantly unfolding. The business started by simply making candles at home; which then evolved into this amazing skincare product that has grown into an entire business revolving around all things self-care. My love for people and connection has been a huge factor in my business’ success; the secret is being passionate about your product and getting excited about sharing it with your community. To this day my creativity continues to evolve in new ways and I am finding a passion in decorating and designing brick and mortar stores that not only hold everything Element Tree Essentials- but also support the other artists and community that has helped me get where I am today.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
There is a multitude of individuals and creatives that have pushed and inspired me over the past 10 years. I owe a lot of credit to my partner, Shannon Norris. As a long time glassblower, he introduced me to the art festival community and taught me how to get my product out to the world. The business would not be where it is today without all of his ambition and remarkable creativity. I would also like to give some credit to Chelsea Klumpp, who jumped in eager to learn about all aspects of the business; including expanding our product line and setting standards for merchandising and operating each of our unique storefronts. I am so grateful for this amazing, unstoppable team and am eager to see where the future takes us!
