Today we’d like to introduce you to King Bogus The Monarch.
Hi King Bogus, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m King Bogus, Monarch, I was raised in Savannah, Ga. I went to Elementary, Middle and High School here. Shoutout to Jenkins High School! A lot of people wonder what got me into rapping and I would have to say it was loss. I was really close to my living grandparents. My father’s father had already passed before I was born. January, February, and March of 2003, I lost all of my grandparents. I was in the fifth grade going into middle school, my brother was graduating high school and moving out.
Everything was changing around me, and I didn’t have anyone to look to, my mom and dad were trying to heal in their own way, so I ended up just writing my feelings down, like Doug. I used to watch Doug with my brother a lot maybe that’s where I got it from. I started with poetry and it evolved into raps. I didn’t start using beats until 6th grade. When I got out of the house I went to school in Atlanta and met Big Fraze who really took me under his wing and taught me how to engineer and produce.
Fast forward to now, I have worked with Grammy Award-winning producer Bangladesh, Platinum Producers like KE on The Track, and Kenny Kold. I’ve worked with artists such as Bando Jonez, Lil Baby and Summer Walker. My brand/ label The 9er is growing and I’m looking to be creating and releasing a lot more content.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been challenges. As an independent artist alone you are GUARANTEED some challenges. I wouldn’t have enough time to list them all. I think my biggest obstacles were people that I knew.
It was hard to really get “support” from my friends and family as a rapper. I don’t think I’m alone in that struggle either. As an artist, I think everyone wants to see their art taken as seriously as they take it. Especially when it comes to friends and family, you know?
I also went to college and had to support my own dreams, so I had to learn how to engineer and produce my own sound because I couldn’t afford to pay someone for sessions for all the music I was writing. I have five different cars, I’ve lost through car accidents that weren’t my fault or through natural disasters.
I had to juggle two jobs, school, and an active music career in Atlanta. I’m sure there are some more obstacles on the way too. I’m looking forward to moving past them just like the other ones.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Hip-hop/R&B artist. My specialty is definitely wordplay but when I do R&B my melodies stand out. I think I’m most known for my lyrical ability, my appearance, and my presence. I have a good following and a brand that I manage all on my own. My brand is called The 9er and my logo is well-known.
I’m most proud of the authenticity of my music. I’m honest and relatable but my wordplay and song-making are on a different level which speaks to my King moniker. That’s what I think sets me apart as well; I do more than just the music. I try to give you an entire vibe of who I am, an entire way of thinking.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
