Rising Stars: Meet Mandi Christine Kerr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mandi Christine Kerr.

Hi Mandi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Since I can remember, I was a daydreamer. I was a kid that loved anything to do with the arts. My parents were both gifted in music, pottery, and painting. There was lots of creative energy around me at all times, and I think that is why the artistic world always felt like home. In high school, I took a beginners’ theatre class, and after my first monologue, there was no turning back. I was hooked. I initially went to college to become a theatre teacher, but eventually, I just dove in headfirst. I knew my first love was telling stories through acting. That is really when I settled on this career path, and I have been at it ever since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It really ebbs and flows. Sometimes it has felt like everything just falls into place. Other times I am wondering what the heck I am doing and decide I’m quitting. Being an actor, you face mostly rejection. It is also very subjective. You can be working the hardest you have ever worked, and no one will hire you. Then there are other times you think you did a terrible audition, and you get hired. You just never know. I think the part of me that wants to control things. I start to seek a feeling of security and steadiness, and the result is I get very frustrated. It is and has never been a predictable field. I love the work though. It usually doesn’t even feel like work. It feels like pure magic to be on a set birthing something new together with other filmmakers.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a TV/FILM actress. My longest-running and possibly most recognizable role was on The Walking Dead on AMC. I was born and raised in the south, so a large portion of my work has a southern gothic feel. You can also see me in other shows on USA, Sundance, CW, and Netflix.

What matters most to you? Why?
Authenticity in my work and life is most important. There is only one of me, so I try to be true to who I am in everything. In my work, I try to be in the moment and use every moment as its own reality; a simple back and forth. In life, I am the friend who is the first to bring the conversation to the deep stuff. I have also been known to have complete strangers tell me their life story at the grocery story checkout line. I love that stuff.

My husband and my kids are also everything. They are my inspiration.
