Rising Stars: Meet Mikayla Mikronis of Guyton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikayla Mikronis

Hi Mikayla, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I saw a need to bring accessibility of professional photography to those who may have a harder time accessing it due to their disabilities whether it be physically or mentally, and as a mother, I felt the need to give more accessibility to a form of self-love and healing, that I strongly believe everyone deserves no matter there walk of life or disability / accessibility. As a child myself, I never did have access to a
professional photography of any kind and that’s why I pride myself in having lower than usual prices and giving everyone an equal opportunity to have a professional photography session centered all around them, no matter the mental or physical capabilities, together we can shine a light on what’s truly magical.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There has definitely been ups and downs along the way and the biggest thing I’ve learned from starting and running a small business would be how fearless and confident within yourself you must be and sometimes convince yourself that “you got this”. I will say something that has helped me is having some form of a mantra or saying that is inspiring and something to look up to, and it has been the biggest thing that’s kept me going along with my husband and children.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a photographer that specializes in family photography for all forms of accessibility needs, I believe the biggest thing as a photographer that I am proud of is being able to capture breathtaking candid photos of people just being people, and shining a light on the unique abilities of those with different accessibility needs. I would say what sets me apart from others is being empathetic towards all different types of circumstances, having lived through so many myself. Also, being a special needs parent and my daughter has taught me so many things as a person and as a parent and personally guided me to want to shine a light on the beauty that is disability and the need of more accessibility within a community.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I personally find it kind of funny that I am referenced as a photographer that is good at editing my photos although, I am not tech savvy at all, I have had to take a good handful of courses to learn how to edit in a style that’s spoke to my photography type the best, and typically surprised myself with how well I can edit a photo that might not be as well lit. If you know you know, it’s a photographer’s struggle to have enough bright lights on a subject. Although my style of photography is normally a soft lit natural setting, to help accentuate natural beauty.
