Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Curran.
Hi Samantha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hello! I am Samantha Curran, owner and lead artist for Makeup Madame Artistry LLC. My career began when I was living in Los Angeles right after high school. I assisted on a photo shoot on muscle beach in Venice and was so inspired! I was always good at makeup but never realized a career could be made out of it. I moved back to Cincinnati (where I am from) and attended cosmetology school. I figured I’d be safe and have a back up license in hair if makeup didn’t work out. But makeup artistry did work out! I was hired by MAC cosmetics when I was 20 years old and worked on and off for them for a span of over 16 years. I wore many hats with that company over those years.
During my time with MAC, I was offered many unique makeup experiences. I did makeup for celebrities, commercials, movies, music videos, national ad campaigns, private lessons, as well as many weddings! I relocated to the Bluffton/Savannah area for love about 4 years ago. It was the best personal and business decision I could have ever made. In the short time, I have been local, I have built a team of exceptional artists and hairstylists to represent my company. I have been lead makeup and hair stylist for a national ADIDAS commercial staring professional tennis star Stan Smith and professional golfer and Olympian Jess Korda. I was lead artist for a photoshoot promoting a brand new sustainable clothing and accessory company called “…and for good” as well as providing hair and makeup for over 300 weddings with my team! We genuinely love helping create some magic for our brides and their families and hope to continue sprinkling that magic all over Georgia and South Carolina!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My career has always followed an up and up path. I believe when you enjoy what you do for a living, it doesn’t really feel like work. It’s easier to take a positive approach on how you handle situations as well. I have never had many challenges per se. I have always been able to work it out!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have such an extensive background in the beauty world. I think that’s one of the things that sets me apart from others. I am extremely well versed in all skin tones and ages as well. I think I am probably best known for how I make a person’s eyes stand out. That’s my biggest area of expertise.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I always tell aspiring artists and stylists to get as much experience as possible! The more you practice, the better you get quicker. And take as many opportunities as possible!
