Rising Stars: Meet Wayne Chambers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wayne Chambers.

Hi Wayne, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
For the past six decades, I have enjoyed art – music, dance, and especially painting!

I was born and raised in Virginia, discovering that I would much rather draw and engage in creative activities rather than work on the farm. I studied art at the New York Arts Students League and at Virginia Commonwealth University. Having a passion for teaching, I later taught at the Georgian Continuing Education Program, as well as private art lessons.

As a young man, I painted several cityscapes and skyline views of Richmond, Virginia. I was the Retail Merchants Resident Artist for 15 years, where many of my works are displayed in the Boardrooms and Galleries.

While vacationing in Savannah, Georgia, in 2000, I became enamored with the city. During my visit, I painted many of the iconic historic homes of the area, including Mercer House (which featured in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil).

After relocating to Savannah permanently, I was quickly recognized as a local talented artist. I was commissioned to design and create the “Tour of Homes” program covers for more than a decade. My most recent commission was a painting of City Hall in Pooler, Georgia, for the mayor.

Most recently, I am a founding member of the Savannah Gallery of Art located in my adopted hometown of Savannah, Georgia.

My biggest recognition yet – inclusion in the Marquis Who’s Who in America! I am very honored by this nomination and am excited to have my legacy captured in such a public forum!

My watercolors include the Low Country marshes, tropical beaches and birds, city garden squares, and Savannah views. I love landscape painting and vibrant colors!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No path in life is always smooth!

As an artist, life has definitely had many bumps along the way!

However, I prefer not to dwell on the struggles, pains, and negativities in life but to focus on the great beauty and joy of living!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a watercolor artist who loves to recreate the vibrant colors found in the world around me!

For over twenty years, I have loved painting the old historic homes and buildings in Savannah, Georgia.

Prior to moving to Savannah, I painted many cityscapes and skylines of other places I have lived and visited.

My passion is in painting nature – the colors are so beautiful! I have many works featuring birds, flowers, and gardens.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Many people do not realize how much I love music and singing!

I love playing the piano – I started lessons more than twenty years ago and am still learning more each week!

Any creative endeavor takes work and dedication to master!
