Check Out Pryce May’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pryce May.

Hi Pryce, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve spent most of my adult life trying to figure out how to make Coastal Georgia a place where creativity doesn’t have to leave to thrive. I grew up with a deep love for film and storytelling, and over time that passion turned into a career with PM Cinematography where I work as an independent filmmaker and videographer. But the more I worked in this niched creative space, the more I noticed a gap. There were talented artists, filmmakers, and performers here, but very few dedicated spaces where their work could be seen, celebrated, and built upon with resources to keep them from leaving home.

That realization led me to found the Golden Isles Film Festival (GIFF) in 2023, a destination film festival designed to bridge the film communities between Savannah and Jacksonville and give Coastal Georgia its own seat at the table. Programming GIFF taught me something important: people here are hungry for this. They want culture. They want community. They want a reason to stay downtown on a Friday night and feel proud of where they live.

SoGlo Theatre is my answer to that hunger — a performing arts venue with an independently owned and operated cinema, ultimately serving as a multi-purpose venue in downtown Brunswick. This will become a real, permanent home for film screenings and filmmaker support with GIFF, live performances, concerts, creative exhibitions and experiences, and so much more.

Interestingly enough, the name “SoGlo” carries a legacy that predates me. It’s a reference to being known as South of Gloucester, a nod to the community rooted along that corridor and to the foundation that Lynda Dalton-Gallagher, Owner and Artistic Director of the Brunswick Actors’ Theatre, began building back in 2007. What started as the Mary Miller Theatre on Gloucester Street transitioned in Fall of 2010 into Brunswick Actors’ Theatre at 1413 Newcastle Street, the space that is now home to both the SoGlo Gallery and Brunswick Actors’ Theatre. Lynda spent nearly two decades activating that space and cementing it as a hub for art and entertainment in Coastal Georgia.

I’m proud to be taking over the helm of what Lynda has built. SoGlo Theatre is scheduled to re-open in Summer of 2026 and is currently accepting bookings at www.SoGloTheatre.com. Honestly, getting here has been a dream come true, and it’s only the beginning. Every client I photographed, every festival I’ve programmed, every conversation I’ve had about what the Golden Isles could be. It all led to this.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, it has not been a smooth road. Yet, I would not have traded the obstacles and challenges for anything.

Building something creative in a small market is a particular kind of challenge. There’s no roadmap or local blueprint to follow. When I launched GIFF in 2023, I was figuring it out in real time. That includes securing venues, building partnerships, convincing people that an destination film festival in the Golden Isles was not only possible, but necessary. Running PM Cinematography as a sole proprietor while simultaneously pouring energy into GIFF and developing the vision for SoGlo Theatre meant I was often stretched thin. From wearing every hat to making every decision and absorbing every setback, every turning point had its purpose.

The ultimate turning point came when I went through the Lucas Center for Entrepreneurship’s Idea Bootcamp — an award-winning, globally recognized program here in Coastal Georgia — led by none other than the amazing Ande Noktes. I walked in with nothing but an idea and I walked out with a startup plan to launch both PM Cinematography, GIFF, and now SoGlo Theatre. The Lucas Center exists to help entrepreneurs at every stage from that first spark of an idea through the growth and scaling of a business or nonprofit organization. To this day, the Lucas Center continues to make a real difference in my entrepreneurial journey.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At my core, I’m a storyteller and community builder. Through PM Cinematography, I work as an independent filmmaker, videographer, and photographer — specializing in brand narratives, event coverage, and documentary-style work. As co-founder of the Golden Isles Film Festival alongside my partner AJ Alston, we built GIFF from the ground up to give Coastal Georgia its own voice in the independent film world, bridging the creative communities between Savannah and Jacksonville.

But what I’m most proud of is SoGlo Theatre. It represents everything I’ve been working toward: a permanent home where filmmakers can screen their work, musicians can perform, artists and makers can exhibit, and our community can gather. What sets me apart is that I’m not just running businesses, I’m changing the cultural fabric of a place that I call home.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about the Golden Isles and Coastal Georgia is the authenticity. This place hasn’t been polished into something unrecognizable yet. There’s a rawness and a realness here in the people, the history, and the landscape that you can’t manufacture elsewhere. I genuinely believe we’re sitting on something special, and I love that the community is starting to wake up to that.

What I like least is the tendency to undersell ourselves. For too long, the Golden Isles has been a pass-through that people drive by rather than a destination in its own right. We have the talent, the history, and the character to be a true cultural hub, and I think we’ve been slow to believe that about ourselves. SoGlo Theatre exists, in part, to challenge that narrative.
